Institutional Review Board

The Institutional Review Board safeguards the rights of all subjects of research carried out under the auspices of Mississippi University for Women. The IRB establishes guidelines for the use of human subjects in research; reviews appropriate research proposals to ensure that the proposed research meets the established guidelines; and recommends approval or disapproval of the research.

Investigators will download Review Packets and submit the documents electronically to the chair of the IRB. All student proposals must be approved by the research advisor prior to submission to the IRB. The investigator will submit necessary materials for the review committee. The committee prefers that submissions be made within the first six weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters and the first three weeks of the First Summer term. Exceptions may be made where appropriate. Requests for such action should be directed to the committee chair.

Global Health Training Center Research Ethics Online Course

All researchers must go to the Global Health Training website to register and affiliate with MUW and then complete the modules required prior to IRB approval.

The Global Health Training Center Research Ethics certificate consists of 14 modules and quizzes. The quiz for each module has been created by The Global Health Network to help you test your knowledge of the course material and to gain certification to demonstrate that you have successfully completed the entire course. Each quiz must be taken in order and we recommend that each quiz is taken directly after completing its associated module. A certificate will be issued on successful completion of all fourteen quiz sections (minimum of 80% required).

Upon successful completion, print and save the certificate for your records.
