Temporary Teacher Licensure Changes

The Mississippi Department of Education has suspended testing requirements for teacher licenses until December 31, 2021. Hundreds of people with degrees or credit towards degrees may now be qualified for a teaching license in Mississippi without taking the PRAXIS or any required exam.

Our Mission & Vision

Mission Statement: The School of Education is dedicated to innovation from early childhood through post-graduation in a complete lifelong learning model of education.

As missioned, the School of Education is organized to enhance MUW's degree-based teacher preparation programs while also providing critical outreach to the region and state through development opportunities for working professionals, life enrichment programs for members of the community, early childhood and parent education and development, and enrichment programs for Pre-K - 12 students. The School of Education is comprehensively designed to serve student populations from Pre-K through retirement.


Vision Statement: The W’s School of Education will reach those who wish to develop as professional educators, lead best practices in instruction, and master individualized support for each learner and community of learners from the foundation formed in preschool through post-graduation.

Education is so much more than classroom instruction. The School of Education is specifically organized to leverage the combined resources of a comprehensive unit with a focus on Education from early childhood to post-graduate options. As such, the School functions as a hub for all things related to Education. Comprised of the Education undergraduate and graduate academic programs, the Office of Outreach & Innovation, the Child & Parent Development Center, Governor’s School, Summer Discovery, and the Complete-to-Compete C2C program, we pride ourselves on providing resources, guidance, and encouragement for our students at every stage of life.


Goals:
  • Goal 1: Provide students high quality best practices in all modalities of instruction to progressively develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions desired in the Professional Educator.
  • Goal 2: Provide individualized support beyond a traditional classroom model for students to progressively develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions desired in the Professional Educator and increase retention rates.
  • Goal 3: Provide meaningful support and service to students and the learning community-at-large through focused effort and development of meaningful partnerships.
  • Goal 4: Provide access to quality instruction, support, and coaching to those who wish to continue developing as Professional Educators.
  • Goal 5: Ensure equitable, meaningful programming for recruitment of potential students to all degree and certification pathways and increase enrollment.
