About the Counseling Center

Mission

Our mission at the W Counseling Center is to promote the development of options when dealing with personal, academic, mental health and wellness choices to enhance student success. To support our mission, the center provides comprehensive services including personal counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention and outreach programming. The center also strives to be available to faculty and staff by educational and training requests as they pertain to mental health development and concerns.

Services

The Counseling Center is available to provide a wide range of services to students currently enrolled at The W.  If a student is experiencing stress, having difficulty adjusting to student life, struggling to create or maintain peer/family relationships, or simply needs an objective point of view regarding a decision or issue in their life, the counseling center staff can help.  The counselors are well-trained mental health professionals who can assist students with any mental health needs, including referral to local outside agencies if necessary.

Counseling services include individual, group and couples counseling to all currently enrolled students whether they live on-campus or off-campus.  The counseling center staff is also available to present workshops to faculty/staff or students on various life coping skill topics and mental health issues.  If there is a need for the students in our “W” community, we want to help meet those needs.

These services are free to all currently enrolled students and all you have to do is come by the Center or call 662-329-7748 to schedule an appointment.  The MUW Counseling Center is located in “The Blue House” on the corner of 11th Street and 4th Avenue.

Who is Eligible for Counseling?

All currently enrolled W students are eligible for using the services provided by the Counseling Center. Non-student spouses or partners of currently enrolled students may be seen in the context of couples counseling with their partner. If there are indicators of a need for individual counseling for the non-student, he/she will be referred to an appropriate outside agency. There are no costs to those currently enrolled students that are eligible to receive counseling.
