General Information

  1. What is the difference between dual enrollment and dual credit?
  • Dual Enrollment: Students take college courses while in high school and earn only college credit.
  • Dual Credit: Students take college courses that count for both high school and college credit, depending on approval from their high school.
  1. Who is eligible for dual enrollment/dual credit at The W?
  • High school juniors and seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Students must have taken the ACT/SAT at least once and earned a minimum ACT composite score of 16.
    The placement score options for College Algebra/Statistics and English Comp I are as follows:
    • Math – ACT:19+, Accuplacer: 253+, Essentials for College Math (HS course): 80+
    • English Comp I – ACT:17+, Accuplacer: 258+, Essentials for College Literacy (HS course): 80+
  • Younger students may be eligible if they have a 3.0 GPA and a 30+ ACT score.
  1. How many courses can a student take per term?
  • While there is no strict limit, it is recommended to take no more than 12 credit hours per semester to maintain a manageable workload.
  1. Can I use these courses toward high school graduation?
  • Yes, with the approval of your high school, dual credit courses can count toward both high school graduation requirements and college credit.

  1. Can out-of-state students enroll in dual enrollment or dual credit?
  • Yes! The W welcomes dual enrollment students from out of state.
  • Dual credit availability depends on whether the student’s high school approves the course for both high school and college credit.

Costs

  1. How much does dual enrollment cost?
  1. One of my parents is a state employee or works at The W. Will I receive an additional discount for my Dual Enrollment class?
  • The cost of Dual Enrollment courses has already been significantly discounted; therefore, additional discounts typically do not apply.

Application & Enrollment

  1. How do I apply for dual enrollment at The W?
  1. What will I need to enroll?
  • Provide ACT/SAT scores and transcripts.
  • Provide a family consent form for FERPA.
  • Obtain a written recommendation from a principal or counselor.
  1. What is the deadline to apply for campus-based Dual Enrollment?
  • Open Applications begin April 13, 2026 and close August 21, 2026 for Fall 2026
  1. Where can I get an application for Dual Enrollment?

  1. Can I take dual enrollment courses in the summer?
  • Yes! Summer courses are offered on The W campus or online. Students will need to apply by May 18, 2026.
  1. Does taking dual enrollment courses affect my high school GPA?
  • This depends on your high school’s grading policy. Some schools weigh dual credit courses similarly to AP courses.
  1. Will I have access to college resources as a dual enrollment student?
  • Yes! This is the best part! As a The W student, dual enrollment students have access to library services, tutoring, student support, and online learning tools.
  1. How do I obtain textbooks and other required materials for my class?

Dropping, Transcripts & Course Adjustments

  1. How do I drop or withdraw from a dual enrollment course?
  • Students must follow The W’s withdrawal policies and inform both The W and their high school.
  1. How do I order a transcript to send to other colleges or universities?
  • Visit The W’s Registrar’s Office website for instructions on requesting official transcripts.
  • Career Tech Transcript Request Form: This form is used if you plan to attend The W and would like to request your Career Tech course credit to be added to your W transcript. This option is only for the following pathways: Culinary Arts, Health Services/Allied Health/Health Sciences, and General Education. Please speak with your W Advisor for more information. The pathways can also be found on the “Find My High School” tab located on the Dual Enrollment home page.
