Intercollegiate athletics returned to The W in 2017-18. Under the direction of new athletic director Jennifer Claybrook, The W became a full-fledged member of the NCAA Division III and the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletics Conference, beginning in 2023-24.

From 2017-2023, The W competed as a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The women’s basketball team won the USCAA Division I National Championship in 2018-19. In 2021, The W won the USCAA Individual National Championship in both men’s and women’s golf.
