Eligibility Criteria and Placement Procedures for Dual Enrollment & Dual Credit
To be eligible for enrollment, a high school student must meet the following criteria:
- Be classified as a junior or higher
- Have a minimum overall high school GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale
- Take the ACT/SAT at least once and received a minimum composite score of 16
- Obtain an unconditional recommendation from his/her high school principal and/or counselor
- Complete any college-level prerequisites required for The W courses for which they wish to register
OR
- Have a minimum high school GPA of 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale
- Earn a minimum composite ACT score of 30 or the equivalent SAT score
- Obtain an unconditional recommendation from his/her high school counselor or principal
- Complete any college-level prerequisites required for The W courses for which they wish to register
At The W, some courses require a specific sub-score on the ACT/SAT to take the course as detailed in The W Bulletin (https://bulletin.muw.edu/). The following sub-scores are required:
• English Composition: ACT English sub-score of 17
• History and/or Literature: ACT Reading sub-score of 17
• College-level Mathematics: ACT Mathematics sub-score of 19
Dual credit students earn both college and high school credit, but approval from their school district is required for their high school credit. To remain eligible for dual credit, students must earn a B average in their first two approved dual-credit courses. Those who do not meet this requirement will no longer be eligible for dual credit but may continue taking dual enrollment courses at MUW, earning college credit only, if they meet the qualifications.
Dual Enrollment & Dual Credit applicants must submit:
- An online application and consent form for admission
- An official high school transcript and ACT scores
- A college transcript showing college-level credit completed (if applicable to meet The W’s course prerequisite requirements)
- Proof of Immunization
