First Day® Complete is a course materials fulfillment program that lowers the cost of course materials and ensures students have their required course materials on the first day of class. W Books + is a course material model that lowers the cost of materials for students and ensures students have access to all of their required course materials on or before the first day of class. Through this new program, physical books will be conveniently packaged and provided to students on a rental basis, and digital materials will be delivered directly within the campus Canvas. Costs will be included as a course charge of $20 per credit hour. At the end of the term, students will receive email reminders to return their physical course materials to the bookstore.

Register for Classes
Upon registering for courses, you will be automatically enrolled into the program. Once you've successfully selected your courses, the bookstore will start preparing your order.
Verify Your Order
Starting 30 days before the first day of classes, you will receive an email to verify your order and select your fulfillment preference.
Receive Your Textbooks
An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pickup or when it ships. Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Canvas.

What is the First Day® Complete program?

First Day® Complete, called “W Books+” at The W, is a course materials fulfillment program that lowers the cost of course materials and ensures students have their required course materials on the first day of class.

W Books+ is a course material model that lowers the cost of materials for students and ensures students have access to all of their required course materials on or before the first day of class. Through this new program, physical books will be conveniently packaged and provided to students on a rental basis, and digital materials will be delivered directly within the campus Canvas. Costs will be included as a course charge of $20 per credit hour. At the end of the term, students will receive email reminders to return their physical course materials to the bookstore.

How does it work?

  1. Register for your classes and the bookstore will start preparing your course materials
  2. One month before classes start, you will receive an email instructing you to select your delivery preference (in-store pickup or shipped directly to you)
  3. An email notification from Barnes and Noble will be sent when your order is ready for pickup or when it ships
  4. Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Canvas.

Which students have access to W Books+?

Currently, WBOOKS+ is available to all undergraduate students and graduate students in the MBA, MAT, and M.Ed. programs.

How much does it cost?

Each student will be charged $20 per credit on their student account for W Books +. Students have the option to opt out of this program.

What is included in the program?

The program provides all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes and digital textbook versions to eligible students.

What is excluded from the program?

The program does not include consumables that cannot be returned and reused such as lab goggles, dissection kits, molecular model kits, culinary supplies, or nursing kits.

What if I am enrolled in a course with no required material?

The $20 per credit hour applies to all courses in the WBooks+ program. If a student is enrolled in one or more courses in which the faculty member has chosen no required material, it may be beneficial to opt-out of the WBooks+ program and purchase materials by the course from the bookstore or third-party vendors. Students should closely evaluate total costs to determine if it is most cost effective to remain in the WBooks+ program or to opt-out of the program.

Can I opt-out of the program?

Yes. W Books + (First Day® Complete) provides you with your required course materials for one low price with an average savings of 35% – 50%. Students have the option to opt-out of this program and purchase their course materials at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore or alternative sources. The opt-out period begins 30 days prior to the start of the semester and closes after the 10th day of class for spring and fall semester. Opting out means you will be responsible for acquiring your required course materials (physical textbooks and digital content). How do I purchase my course materials if I decide to opt-out of the program?

Students will be responsible for purchasing their required course materials. If a student opt-out of the program, the purchase of course materials through the bookstore or a third-party is the student’s responsibility. Students can still use their financial aid (book voucher) to pay for their books in the bookstore. The final opt-out date and the final dates for book vouchers are listed on the Academic Calendar

How do I enroll in the program?

All eligible students will be automatically enrolled in W Books +.

How do I change my opt-out status for the current semester?

Students will receive emails and option to opt back in the program via at least three emails. Opting back in will progress via the link the student’s MyApps email.

Do I need to opt out each semester?

Yes. Your account will automatically opt in each semester. If you wish to opt out, you will need to do so at the beginning of each semester.

What happens if I never verify my order?

Students will receive emails and phone calls from the bookstore to remind them to verify their order. If the student does not opt-out, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged.

If I never pick up my books, will I still get charged?

Yes, if the student does not opt-out, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged.

What if I drop a class?

You may return the book to the bookstore on the same terms and timelines currently in place. If you drop a class and enroll in a different class, the bookstore will “swap” the required textbooks/codes so that you have what you need.

What if I repeat a class?

Book fees are based on credit hours. Students will be charged for repeated classes.

Are there classes not included in the WBooks+ program?

MFA, MPH, FNP/DNP, WS graduate classes and a small number of self-directed internship, practicum, studio, and field experience undergraduate courses are not part of the WBooks+ program.

Will I receive physical or digital versions of my materials?

Required course materials will be provided in the format requested by faculty. Your bundle may include a mix of physical and digital course materials.

Can I opt-out if I picked up my textbooks?

Yes, you will have 48 hours to return your textbooks. If the books are not returned, there will be no adjustment to the account and the initial charges will remain.

Can I buy my rented textbook?

Yes, the program provides you with the option to purchase textbooks at a reduced rate during the return period. Students will receive an email notification the week before final exams.

Do I need to return books if they are for a continuation course?

Yes, fees are charged by semester, you will still be required to return continuation course textbooks. You will be issued the same title for the next semester of the continuation course.

What happens if I do not return the books by the due date?

At the end of the semester, a hold may be placed on the student’s account.

When are my textbook rentals due back to the bookstore?

The deadline to return all rental textbooks is the day after grades are due. Students will receive email reminders about the rental deadline to their email address.
