MUW is an affliate member of The Mississippi Space Grant Consortium (MSSGC), a NASA-funded program with the goal of increasing awareness of and engagement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities at all levels of schooling across Mississippi.

Undergraduate Research Internship Awards
Provides undergraduate research scholarships for qualified students to work on faculty-led lab projects or lab-associated activities. Candidates must have arranged for a faculty member to act as their prospective mentor before submitting their application. The candidates will be selected by a committee composed of sciences and mathematics faculty from currently-enrolled MUW students to enable the successful candidates to pursue research in their fields. Undergraduate Preservice Teacher Awards
Provides undergraduate teaching scholarships to students that will be doing a preservice teaching internship in STEM classes at a K-12 school as part of their degree requirements. The candidates will be selected by a committee composed of sciences and mathematics faculty to support qualifying MUW seniors during their penultimate, full-time teaching internship semester. Faculty Research Infrastructure Award
Provides funds for faculty, selected by a committee composed of sciences and mathematics faculty, to pay for research supplies associated with mentoring specific undergraduate researchers. Candidates must specify which undergraduate students will be working and funds must be used to fund those students' activities. U.S. Citizenship required. Faculty-led Travel To STEM-Related Events
Provides funds for faculty to take students to STEM-related events, such as, but not limited to scientific meetings, museums, or field trips. The travel should be lead by a faculty member, who will fill out the application. Faculty should submit application as soon as travel is planned. Only student expenses will be covered, not faculty expenses. Deadline for submitted applications is open until further notice. Travel to Science and Mathematics Meetings
Provides opportunities for selected MUW undergraduate students to attend regional and/or national professional meetings proposed and sponsored by faculty. The student should fill out the application. About the program
The Mississippi Space Consortium is part of the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Fund.
NASA initiated this program in 1989 as a national network of colleges of universities, working to expand opportunities for Americans to understand and participate in NASA's aeronautics and space projects by supporting and enhancing science and engineering education, research, and public outreach efforts. The network currently includes over 850 affiliates, from universities, colleges, industry, museums, science centers, and state and local agencies. These affiliates belong to one of 52 consortia in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. MUW is one of the affiliate universities in this program.
