Three Biology majors from the Dept. of Sciences and Mathematics are starting medical school together this fall in Jackson.

Mallory Parker Williams, Maggie Smith, and Laila Wrenn are all part of the incoming 2025 class at the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Medicine.

Mallory and Leila both graduated from MUW in spring 2025. Maggie graduated in spring 2024.

All three students carried out mentored independent research projects while in the department, working with faculty on projects within those faculty members’ research labs. Independent research under faculty mentorship is a valued experience whatever students apply for next.

Mallory worked with both Dr. Whitwam and Dr. Hagey on research projects.
