Biography of Scott Tollison, Ph.D.

Dr. Scott Tollison is Interim President of Mississippi University for Women and Professor of Management Information Systems and Workforce Development. He has dedicated more than twenty years to The W, joining the university as an instructor in 2004.

He has held roles as department chair, dean of the College of Business and Professional Studies, and provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. Tollison served three years on the Faculty Senate, including one term as vice president. When intercollegiate athletics resumed at The W, he became Faculty Athletics Representative, supporting the university’s return to competition.

As an educator, he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in information systems, technology management, computer programming and networking, electronic commerce, and health care information technology. Before joining The W, Tollison taught career and technical courses at East Mississippi Community College. His research and presentations have focused on online learning, instructional technology, academic integrity, transfer pathways, and the effective integration of technology in education.

Tollison has represented the university in various state, regional, and national higher education organizations. He serves on the Board of Directors of the University Press of Mississippi and has served on national committees of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges.

His community and professional service includes membership on the Columbus Arts Council Board of Directors, where he served as secretary, and the West Point–Clay County Growth Alliance Board of Advisors. He also served as honorary commander of the 14th Medical Support Squadron at Columbus Air Force Base and has been active in the Columbus Exchange Club.

Tollison is a graduate of Leadership Mississippi and the Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy. He was named to the Mississippi Business Journal’s Top 50 Under 40. Other recognitions include honorary membership in Phi Kappa Phi, the National Society of Leadership and Success, and Delta Mu Delta.

Tollison holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in information systems and a doctorate in instructional systems and workforce development. He is a native of West Point, Mississippi.
