Mississippi University for Women students will have the opportunity to learn about healthy relationships, dating safety and local health resources during the Safe Dating Awareness Event on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. outside Hogarth Dining Hall.

“The Department of Health & Kinesiology is excited to partner with our local health department to bring these important resources to students on campus,” said Christina Chunn, instructor of health education.

The interactive tabling event aims to equip students with the knowledge and tools to navigate dating and relationships safely while also connecting them with valuable health services available in the community.

This event is a project of the Northeast Mississippi Healthy Start Consortium and is co-sponsored by The W’s Department of Health and Kinesiology in collaboration with the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Representatives from the Northeast Mississippi Healthy Start Program and the Mississippi State Department of Health will be on campus to provide important resources and information focused on

  • Pre-conceptive health – Understanding reproductive health and wellness.
  • Dating safety – Recognizing red flags and protecting oneself in relationships.
  • Enjoying healthy relationships – Building and maintaining strong, respectful partnerships.
  • Avoiding or leaving toxic situations – Knowing when and how to seek help.
