Ramey found her ‘home away from home’ at The W
Growing up in a small town just outside of Tuscaloosa, Sara Grace Ramey knew one thing, she did not want to attend college at a South Eastern Conference (SEC) school.

“On the contrary, I wanted a smaller school where, when I went into the classroom, the professors knew me by name and knew different facts about me,” she said.
When Coach Benji Williams reached out asking Ramey if she’d consider playing golf at The W, she found more than just a school, she found a community.
“When I came to the campus for the first time, I felt like it was home away from home,” Ramey said.
When she wasn’t in class or practicing her golf game, Ramey was heavily involved on campus. She was a member of the Baptist Student Union (BSU) and the Wesley Foundation as well as the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Ramey received her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology during The W’s spring commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 8. The decision to pursue kinesiology is rooted in an experience nearly a decade ago.
“At the end of 2018 my grandmother had a severe stroke that left her paralyzed on her right side,” Ramey said. “The physical therapist actually let me help him do certain exercises with her, and it really opened my eyes and got me really interested in the field of work.”
Her original plan was to go to Occupational Therapy (OT) or Physical Therapy (PT) school, however, she came to realize that path wasn’t for her. Instead, Ramey will be going back to school to be a licensed physical therapy assistant.
“I will still do the physical therapy and everything, just under the actual physical therapist,” she said. “I get to be more hands on with patients, and really just develop good relationships with patients.”
She feels that her time at The W has prepared her for whatever she does in her life, both professionally and personally.
She also offered advice to incoming students so that they too may find their home away from home.
“Go to as many campus events as possible because you will meet some of your life-long friends,” Ramey said.
