Mississippi University for Women’s basketball teams will be hosting a “Halloween Hoot & Hoops” event for fans of all ages on Monday, Oct. 30 in Pohl Gym from 5:15-7 p.m.

The event will be a great opportunity for youth in 8th grade and younger to test out their Halloween costumes a day early with Trick-or-Treat goodies provided by The W teams and groups, as well as a chance for everyone to meet the 2023-24 basketball squads.

The evening is free of charge and begins at 5:15-5:45 p.m. with trick-or-treating – and photo opportunity time – in the Pohl Gym lobby. After that, fans will move into the arena for team introductions, skills contests, and fan participation events. Concluding the night will be the fan-favorite Owls Athletics Staff vs. Columbus V.I.P.’s game.

Scheduled to play on the Columbus V.I.P. team are: Keith Gaskin (Mayor of Columbus); Jon Sokoloff (WCBI Sports Director); Jason Williams (WTVA Sports Director); Alex Murphy (Columbus Dispatch Sports Editor); Randy Vibrock (MUW Police Chief); Doug Pellum (Zachary’s owner) and Sam Yarborough (Voice of the Owls broadcasts).

The W Athletics staffers slated to participate in the game are Benji Williams (head golf coach); Dedrick Burnett (head cross country/track & field coach); Hannah White (assistant cross country/track & field); Daniel Talley (head tennis coach); Glen Halbert (Athletics Diversity & Inclusion Designee) and; Jeremy Newton (campus recreation).
