Mississippi University for Women’s student-athletes had another strong academic showing for the Fall 2024 term, by posting a departmental grade point average (GPA) of 3.21.

146 of 209 individual athletes – 70% – spread over the department’s 17 intercollegiate teams were recognized on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for achieving a term GPA of 3.00 or higher, including 13 two-sports athletes.

“Hats off to our student-athletes for another very strong effort in the classroom during the fall term,” Director of Athletics Buddy Foster  said. “As an NCAA Division III – as well as St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference – member, it is our goal to always perform well, both academically and athletically.

“To be able to generate this type of success in their studies – while carrying a full course load and supporting our department’s community outreach efforts – says a lot about the character and discipline of these young people. Credit also goes to our coaches, as well as support personnel around campus, for all they do to ensure our student-athletes’ success.”

44 individuals – 21 percent of all student-athletes for the Owls – had perfect 4.0 term grades last fall, as well. 44 percent of all student-athletes for The W (93 individuals) achieved term GPAs of 3.50 or better.

In all, 11 of The W’s 15 programs (indoor and outdoor track & field were combined) also achieved team GPAs of 3.00 or better over the fall. Women’s Golf and Volleyball led the way with GPAs of 3.74 and 3.69, respectively. Those were followed closely by Softball (3.53), Women’s Cross Country (3.44), Men’s Golf (3.43), and Women’s Soccer (3.43).

Other teams reaching a 3.00 grade point average for the fall term included: Women’s Tennis (3.30), Men’s Basketball (3.29), Baseball (3.17), Men’s Cross Country (3.07), and Men’s Tennis (3.04).
