Nominations are now being accepted for the Kossen Faculty Excellence Award.

The Kossen Faculty Excellence Award endowment was established by Drs. Connie (’64) and Tom Kossen. This year the endowment fund will be $6,000 to recognize an outstanding faculty member, the recipient of which will be named and honored during the Commencement Ceremonies.

The recipient must be a meritorious tenured faculty member of The W who has exhibited excellence in teaching, scholarly or artistic achievement, and service, preferably both on campus and in communities, throughout The W’s service area. Further, to be considered for this award, a faculty member must exhibit a commitment to student success in each of the following three areas of responsibility:

1.  Documentation of excellence in teaching shall include evidence of a commitment to teaching and learning that results in outstanding opportunities for students served. Evidence of mentoring students outside of formal classroom settings shall be given significant consideration as shall evidence that graduates are successful in their careers or in the pursuit of further studies.

2.  Documentation of excellence in scholarly or artistic achievement shall include a record that leads to the recognition of excellence on campus as well as recognition of accomplishments by peers. Involving or mentoring students in research, scholarship or artistic achievement shall be given consideration.

3.  Documentation of excellence in service shall include a commitment to activities on campus including those involving governance and those involving student services. In addition, it is expected that excellence in service shall include meaningful efforts representing the campus in professional organizations as well as in the community.

The Kossen Faculty Excellence Award will recognize achievements the nominee/individual has attained through many years of service to the institution. Nominations will be accepted from faculty, staff, students, alumni, and members of the community.

Letters of nomination should clearly establish how the named individual meets the criteria listed above and should be two to four pages in length. Further, the individual submitting the nomination should solicit letters of support from three to five colleagues, students and/or alums.

Nominations are due April 14.
