The 12th annual Long Blue Line Auction is more than an online event. The auction, set for Sept. 27-28, helps the Mississippi University for Women Alumni Association (MUWAA) raise funds for scholarships, faculty grants and projects including the restoration of historic Shattuck Hall.

The auction kicks off on Facebook Live at 4:30 p.m. CST Sept. 27, with bidding to start at 5 p.m.

“The Long Blue Line Auction has become the heartbeat of fun and fellowship right at your fingertips as alumni and friends across the world have welcomed its virtual setting.” said MUWAA President Jermarra Jones-Price, a 2008 graduate. “We invite all supporters of The W to join in on the spirited bidding wars, share their auction stories and enjoy the camaraderie of their fellow W alumni and friends. As you take in the excitement of auction weekend and days leading up to it, remember that each donation and bid received will provide funding for our student scholarships, campus programs and faculty projects. Thank you in advance for your contributions to the future lineage of the Long Blue Line.”

Over the past 12 years, the Long Blue Line Auction has raised more than $200,000 that has gone directly toward making a difference in The W community, she said.

The “Long Blue Line” symbolizes the tradition of excellence among The W’s alumni. Originally referring to the blue uniforms worn by early university attendees, it now represents the enduring commitment to the university’s legacy of excellence.

“This year’s Long Blue Line Auction will feature a wide array of donated items,” said Bayleigh Vick, MUWAA Special Events Committee chair and a 2016 W graduate who finished her master’s degree at The W in 2020.

“We have some truly exciting items for this year’s Long Blue Line Auction, including returning favorites like the Homecoming stay at Puckett House, a three-night stay in a beachfront condo in Florida, priceless MUW memorabilia, gorgeous art pieces, all things ginkgo,” said Vick, of Baltimore, “And some items we’ve never seen before like a Shattuck soup bowl and soup spoon, and two different packages to ‘Saddle Up Your Story’ with intuitive story wrangler Mavis Lamb.”

Mailed auction donations can be sent to the Office of Development and Alumni, 1100 College Street, MUW-1618, Columbus MS 39701, through Sept. 23, and auction items can be dropped off through Sept. 26 at Office of Development and Alumni at The W.
