“I am honored that so many of my colleagues entrusted me with such important work for the association by voting to re-elect me for a second term.  It was particularly exciting to be elected at the 2024 annual meeting in Chicago, where we celebrated 100 years of NASM,” said Mortyakova.

The commission consists of 18 elected members. It is made of a chair, an associate chair and 16 members, all elected by the membership at large. Additionally, there are three public members.

Of the elected members, each is elected in one of four categories: Baccalaureate, Master’s, Doctorate or At-Large.

Mortyakova was elected for the baccalaureate category. Her term ends in 2027.

Her experience with the organization dates back to 2012, when she was hired at The W.

“I led the W through a successful NASM membership reaccreditation process in 2014 and, most recently, in 2024. I have been trained by NASM as a visiting evaluator and as an experienced visiting evaluator and have been performing on-site evaluative visits on behalf of the NASM Commission on Accreditation since 2016, first as team member and later as team chair. I have served on the NASM Commission on Accreditation since 2023,” Mortyakova said.

The commission upholds the accreditation and membership standards of NASM for the baccalaureate and graduate institutions and independent, non-degree-granting institutions within its jurisdiction.

The W has a storied history with NASM as well, being the first institution in Mississippi to receive accreditation, which was achieved in 1935.
