Nursing students at Mississippi University for Women will have the opportunity to peruse a wide variety of jobs and graduate programs in the field during the Healthcare Career Fair, hosted by the Career Services and Professional Development Center.

The event will be held Feb. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Pohl Gym.

There are already nearly 30 businesses and graduate programs registered to attend the event, and the list could grow.

“The goal of the event is to create a place that students can easily connect with potential employers and graduate school programs. By bringing these organizations to campus and encouraging faculty members to send student groups over directly after classes conclude, we hope to remove some barriers to students being able to attend.  It is important to the CSPD Center that students meet a variety of potential employers and graduate school programs to widen their opportunities after graduating from The W,” said Elise Wilson, director for the CSPD Center.

Participating employers and programs will have tables set up in the gym where students can learn more about them. Some notable participants include: UAB Medicine, University of Mississippi Medical Center Office of Nursing Development and Professional Practice, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, OCH Regional Medical Center and The W’s master’s programs.

Events like this are important, according to Wilson, because they place employers and prospective employees in the same room and allow for a channel of communication to be opened.

“Career Fairs are important because they create an environment where students are able to connect with 20 to 30 employers and graduate school programs in one place and time.  Bringing employers to campus is also important in that it shows them the good things that we are doing on campus and the quality of students that are here at The W,” Wilson said.
