Fant Library to host documentary screening for Banned Books Week
Fant Memorial Library at Mississippi University for Women will host a screening of the Emmy Award-winning documentary, “The Librarians,” Monday, Oct. 5, at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s tiered classroom.
The documentary, directed by Kim A. Snyder, highlights librarians who stand up to censorship in the face of adversity. One of the featured librarians, Suzette Baker, will be present for the screening, and there will be a Q&A session, following the film.
“Banned Books Week has always been about celebrating the freedom of information and about libraries as representations of that freedom. This documentary shows how that freedom has been infringed upon in several states, and in hearing these stories and discussing the implications of them with each other, we can uphold and stand for those freedoms in our community,” said Hillary Richardson, dean of library services.
The screening is free and open to the public thanks to the Friends of the Fant Library. Those wishing to support events like this can visit muw.edu/library/give to learn more.
