Mississippi University for Women’s Campus Recreation department is partnering with Columbus Community Outreach, the City of Columbus and the Mississippi State Department of Health to bring the Community Health Fair to campus, Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Set for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in Pohl Gymnasium, the event will feature educational resources about health concerns and how to prevent them, health screenings, exercise demonstrations, vendors as well as food trucks and music and more.

“Everyone who’s able should come take advantage of the event, even if it is just for fun,” said Garielle Cooper graduate assistant for Campus Recreation, and one of the coordinators for the event. “Attendees will learn how to care for every part of their health and will leave knowing where to go, who to call and what resources exist right here in our community.”

Vendors will represent a variety of health topics affecting adults and people of all ages and backgrounds. Screenings, handouts, tools and lessons are all free.

Please note that anyone planning to receive a blood glucose check is asked to come early in the event and fast beforehand, drinking only water, as food or drink will affect the accuracy of the results.

The partnership ties directly with the department’s mission wherein it “strives to provide quality recreation opportunities for the MUW community and to create a safe environment that fosters development of the mind, body and soul.”

“It’s a day for the community to learn and have fun together,” Cooper said. “Whether it is dentist offices, recreation centers, fire marshals or other community resources, someone will be on hand with information you may have been looking for.”
