Mississippi University for Women starts the academic year off with Blues Week, a week full of activities for students, through Sunday, Aug. 25.

Sponsored by the Office of Student Life, Blues Week is an annual event that welcomes new and returning students to The W’s campus each fall. A week’s worth of programming gets students ready to take on the new school year.

“Blues Week is the best because you’re able to go to events and meet new people without worrying about schoolwork yet!” said Asia Duren, director of student life for The W.

Students have a variety of events to choose from throughout the week. The university’s social clubs and Greek life will host a skate night at Pohl Gym Wednesday at 9 p.m. There will be an international coffee hour on Cochran Hall’s fourth floor at 10 a.m. Friday.

Students will also get the chance to peruse the organizational offerings on campus during the annual organization fair in Pohl Gym, Thursday at 4 p.m.

The festivities will close out Sunday, Aug. 25 with a Luau Pool Party, hosted by the Office of Development & Alumni, Campus Recreation, Office of Student Life MUW Alumni Association and Owls Athletics, at 6 p.m. at the Stark Backyard and Pool.
