Austin MacBrayer was named Owl Star for 2024 at Mississippi University for Women.

The honor was presented during the annual Staff Recognition Luncheon and Meeting.

MacBrayer is responsible for maintaining Stark Recreation Center and Martin Hall. Despite the high demands of his role, he consistently surpasses expectations to ensure these facilities remain clean, welcoming and fully operational for students, faculty and staff.

“Austin’s work ethic and attention to detail are truly remarkable,” one nominator shared. “Our building has not looked this clean in more than five years, thanks to his dedication. He brings a pleasant attitude, a friendly smile and an unwavering commitment to meet and exceed our custodial needs.”

In addition to his custodial work, MacBrayer regularly assists his coworkers by delivering supplies, troubleshooting equipment and even helping with maintenance tasks outside of his typical duties. For example, he has used his personal leaf blower to improve the appearance of outdoor areas and personally drained and scrubbed toilets to restore them to pristine condition.

MacBrayer’s gestures extend beyond his day-to-day responsibilities. He frequently surprises his colleagues with baked goods and always checks to ensure their custodial needs are met.

“Our custodians, yard crew and maintenance workers are integral to this university,” another nominator emphasized. “Austin exemplifies the dedication and pride that often goes unnoticed but is essential to our campus community. This recognition is well deserved.”
