November 4, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Movie poster for The American Revolution documentary. The Constitution's preamble serves as the background, with the words "We the People" looming large on an aged and crinkled paper. Below it, in inky blue profile, appears a man wearing a revolutionary tri-corner hat and riding a rearing horse. The sword in his had morphs into a writing quill. around him are other revolutionaries wielding muskets, a cannon, and a flag.

Join us at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library for a preview and panel discussion of The American Revolution, a new six-part, 12-hour documentary series that explores the country’s founding struggle and its eight-year War for Independence. Drs. Jon Hooks (Mississippi University for Women) and Judith Ridner (Mississippi State University) will draw on their expertise to set the stage, and Mississippi Public Broadcasting will screen a summary version of the film.
The full film series will premiere on Sunday, November 16 and air for six consecutive nights through Friday, November 21st. The much anticipated series, which has been in production for eight years, was directed and produced by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt and written by long-time collaborator Geoffrey C. Ward. The filmmakers and PBS scheduled the broadcast for 2025, the 250th anniversary of the start of the war, which began in the spring of 1775, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence.
