Tyler Wheat, communications director, was named Owl Star for the first quarter by MUW Staff Council.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition from my colleagues at The W,” said Wheat.

Daily, he is responsible for university news, media relations, social media marketing and university branding among other duties. Wheat has been a staff member at The W since 2012.

MUW Staff Council representatives presented him with the award Friday, April 5.

The Owl Star is a quarterly award presented by The W’s Staff Council to recognize staff members who go above and beyond in their position.

To be eligible for the award, the nominee must be a benefits eligible professional or support staff member, have a minimum of one year of service, demonstrate professionalism and dedication by going beyond the call of duty, works to improve service and image of his/her respected area/department, demonstrate outstanding accomplishments of significance based on initiative, cooperation, and ability to perform a job successfully, demonstrate a high degree of competence and expertise and work beyond the requirements of job in participating in university and/or community service projects.
