Letter: Digital Declutter for Accessibility & Compliance
Dear Campus Community,
As we work toward ensuring all our digital platforms are accessible to users with disabilities, we need all colleges, departments, units, and offices with a web presence to assist with this digital declutter, including materials in Canvas, W Connect, and other digital platforms.
Reducing the amount of outdated, redundant, or unused content is the easiest way to improve our institution’s ADA compliance and make our websites easier for everyone to navigate. Our deadline is April 24, 2026!
What we are asking you to do by the end of February:
• Delete outdated flyers, irrelevant announcements, etc.
• Check Images: If you don’t need it, remove it. If you do, ensure it has descriptive Alt Text.
• Archive legacy pages that are no longer actively used.
• Review PDFs—if they are old, delete them. If they are necessary, ensure they are accessible.
• A best practice is to always declutter your Canvas course menu by removing any tools (on the left side menu) that you will not be using in your course that semester.

Thank you for your efforts, and let’s continue to work together to make our digital platforms welcoming for everyone.
