GS# 104-215 Jones Hall Interior/Exterior Renovations: This is a Bureau of Building project. Planning and construction through Warranty Phase of renovations is planned for Jones Hall. This 47,000 square foot facility, first constructed in 1964 has only received minor improvements over the course of its life. Scope will include asbestos abatement, restoration of interior and exterior elements, interior reconfiguration, ADA improvements and major renovations of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety systems. Due to the building’s Mississippi Landmark status, coordination with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History will be required. The project professional is Schafer Zahner and Zahner. The project is scheduled for 365 days. This project is approximately 75% complete.
GS# 104-214 South Campus Mechanical Plant Improvements: This is a Bureau of Building project. A new chiller plant is planned for construction to provide cooling for Jones, Kincannon, Goen and Frazer. This new plant will provide chilled water delivery with improved efficiencies and redundant backup cooling. The project professional is Dewberry Engineering. Substantial completion is expected by November 2026. This project is approximately 90% complete.
GS# 104-221 McDevitt Emergency Power Upgrade: This is a Bureau of Building project. McDevitt will have two new emergency generators installed to replace the existing one. This has been changed from a JOC project to a sealed bid. The professional will be Dewberry Engineering, and the general contractor is Shivers Construction. The completion date is scheduled for 02/25/2027.
GS# 104-216 Old Pohl Gym Renovation: This is a Bureau of Building project that involves the renovation and modernization of the existing 25,700-square-foot facility, originally constructed in 1927. The project is intended to restore the historically significant building and repurpose it for faculty and staff offices and academic spaces. Renovations will include improvements to interior finishes, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, fire and life safety systems, ADA accessibility, and overall building functionality. The project will address deteriorating building conditions, improve energy efficiency, reduce long-term maintenance costs and extend the useful life of the facility while preserving its historic architectural character. Belinda Stewart Architects, P.A. serves as the design professional, and the project has progressed through Design Development approval. Upon completion, the project will return a long-vacant campus facility to productive use while supporting the University’s academic and administrative needs. This building is a Mississippi Landmark and will require coordination with MDAH.
GS# 104-217 Hogarth Student Center Renovation: This is a Bureau of Building project that involves the comprehensive renovation and modernization of approximately 80,000 square feet of existing dining and student center facilities originally constructed in the 1960s. The project is intended to improve the overall functionality, accessibility, and efficiency of the facility while creating a more inviting environment for students, faculty, and staff. Renovations will include roof replacement, asbestos abatement, interior and exterior improvements, reconfiguration of existing spaces, ADA accessibility upgrades, and major renovations to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems. The proposed improvements will modernize the kitchen, dining areas, and banquet facilities while providing enhanced student gathering, study, recreation, office, and programming spaces. A major component of the renovation will be improving interior circulation and connectivity between the dining and student center portions of the building. The project will also address aging infrastructure, improve energy efficiency, reduce long-term maintenance requirements, and preserve the building’s historic architectural character. Burris/Wagnon Architects, P.A. serves as the design professional, and the project is currently in the design phase. Upon completion, the renovated Hogarth Student Center will serve as a modernized central hub for student activities, dining and campus engagement.
GS# 104-223 Martin and Pohl Central Plant Boiler Replacement: This is a Bureau of Building project that involves the replacement of aging boiler equipment serving Martin and Pohl central heating and cooling plants. The project is intended to improve the reliability, efficiency, and overall performance of the heating systems in both facilities. The proposed scope includes removal of existing boiler equipment, installation of new energy-efficient boilers and associated improvements to heating water piping, pumps, valves, electrical connections, controls and other supporting mechanical components as required. The new equipment will be designed to meet the heating demands of the facilities while improving operational efficiency, reducing energy consumption and minimizing maintenance and repair costs. The project will also address system reliability and provide improved temperature control and heating performance throughout the buildings. Dewberry Engineers, Inc. serves as the design professional. Upon completion, the project is expected to provide dependable heating services, reduce the risk of equipment failures, and extend the useful life of the University’s mechanical infrastructure.
GS# 104-220 Painter Hall Renovation Pre-planning: This is a Bureau of Building project that involves the comprehensive renovation and modernization of the existing approximately 21,500-square-foot facility, originally constructed in 1922. The project is intended to address aging building infrastructure, improve accessibility and enhance the functionality and efficiency of the facility while preserving its historic architectural character. The proposed scope includes a complete interior renovation with reconfiguration of existing spaces, asbestos abatement, improvements to interior finishes, ADA accessibility upgrades and major renovations to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety systems to meet current building code requirements. As a designated Mississippi Landmark, the project will require coordination with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History to ensure preservation of historically significant architectural elements. JBHM Architects, P.A. serves as the design professional, and the project is currently identified as a preplanning effort. Upon completion, the renovation is expected to provide a safer, more efficient and modernized facility that supports the University’s academic and operational needs.
