Transforming Traditional Feminine Spaces in El eterno femenino, “La muñeca menor,” and Como agua para chocolate

Dr. Vargas will explore texts by Latin American women authors who use spaces that have been traditionally assigned to women and thus perceived as less than, like the home, kitchen, and beauty salon, and explores the ways the authors transform them with the goal of dismantling the patriarchal discourse. Her talk is supported by a grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council and is one of a series of Hispanic Heritage Month events scheduled for September 21-22.
