THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF A CAMPUS THAT CARES

Twenty-two years ago, I arrived at Mississippi University for Women as an instructor in what was then the Division of Business and Communication. During my interview, those who served on the search committee remind me of how quiet and reserved I was, even struggling to make eye contact.

Thankfully, The W has never been a place that allows people to remain exactly as they are. Throughout my career, colleagues became mentors, mentors became friends, and our community invested in me. They encouraged me, pushed me, and believed in me. In fact, they believed in me before I believed in myself.

Quite simply, The W transformed my life.

Twenty-two years later, I have been given the privilege of serving as Interim President of this remarkable university. That journey says little about me and everything about this place. This is a place that sees potential in people and helps them become more than they imagined they could be.

That is why I have such confidence in our campus's ability to transform the lives of our students. I know firsthand what can happen when a person is surrounded by faculty and staff who genuinely care about their success. I have personally experienced that support, and I see it every day as our campus invests in our students' lives.

It is my hope that every student who walks across our campus finds the same encouragement, support, and sense of belonging that shaped me.
