University social media guidelines
Social media plays an important and strategic role in university communication, influencing brand perception, community and student engagement and awareness of the university.
As the use of AI in content creation continues to grow, it is increasingly important that we represent the university accurately in both imagery and messaging. While AI can be a useful tool, it is not infallible. All data, messaging and imagery created or enhanced through AI should be carefully reviewed for accuracy, appropriateness and alignment with the university’s brand.
Creating Accessible Content
Regardless of the software or AI tool used to create content, all content posted on behalf of the university is still required to meet ADA accessibility standards. To learn more about creating accessible content, please visit the Center for Kossen Center Teaching and Learning’s accessibility resources: https://www.muw.edu/ctl/creating-accessible/
All creative content should maintain a professional appearance and present the university in the best possible light.
Review Guidelines
We ask all social media managers and account administrators to review the university’s social media guidelines.
Guidelines include, but are not limited to:
* Be mindful of the copyright and intellectual property rights of others.
* Employees should be aware that their actions and personal content may be perceived as representing The W.
* Do not post confidential or proprietary information.
* Any paid digital and social media ads must be pre-approved by the Office of University Relations.
A comprehensive list of social media guidelines can be found at: https://www.muw.edu/ur/social-media/
Account Administration and Access
If you are a social media account administrator or manager, please email Tyler Wheat, Communications Director, with the following information:
* The name of the account
* The social media channel
* The names of all current account administrators
Please ensure that every university social media account has more than one authorized administrator. Additionally, anyone who is no longer associated with the university should have their access removed promptly.
Thank you for helping ensure that The W’s social media presence remains accurate, accessible, professional and consistent with the university’s communications standards.
