Money names The W one of America’s best colleges
Mississippi University for Women has been named to Money’s 2026 Best Colleges in America list, recognizing the university for quality education, affordability and student outcomes.
“Another independent ranking agency has found The W to be the top performer in the state and among the leading institutions in the nation,” said Interim President Dr. Scott Tollison. “Money’s Best Colleges list considers 25 metrics across three areas that matter most to students and their families. This recognition further demonstrates The W’s exceptional value for our students and the people of Mississippi.”
Of Mississippi’s eight public universities, six were featured on the list, along with two private institutions. Using a five-star rating system, The W earned 4.5 out of 5 stars — the highest rating among Mississippi’s universities recognized by Money.
Editors highlighted the university’s history, recent enrollment increase, athletics, affordable tuition and flat-rate tuition options, including The W’s RN-to-BSN program.
To develop the rankings, Money.com reviewed more than 2,400 four-year public and private nonprofit colleges nationwide. A total of 735 institutions were included on the 2026 list. According to Money, the rankings evaluate colleges using 25 metrics, including graduation rates, costs, financial aid, student debt and alumni salaries, to help families identify schools that provide strong educational value.
The recognition from Money adds to a growing list of national accolades for The W. In 2025, the U.S. Department of Education ranked the university No. 1 in Mississippi for undergraduate earnings after graduation. Graduates earn a median salary of $63,197 within four years of graduation — nearly $4,000 more than graduates of the next highest-ranked university in the state among students who received federal financial aid.
Money.com stated, “The Best Colleges ratings combine the most accurate pricing estimates available with indicators of alumni financial success, along with an analysis of how much value a college adds when compared to other schools that take in similar students.”
