The Lowndes County Mississippi MILC League (Making an Impact in the Lactation Community) is launching free weekly breastfeeding support meetings to provide guidance and community for pregnant and breastfeeding families.

“Columbus has been sorely in need of a local breastfeeding support group for a while. It has taken over six months of planning to launch. Jennifer, Liz, and I feel so honored to help fill this need in the community. I’m also excited to have one of our public health education interns helping with the MILC League and seeing program planning in action,” said Christina Chunn, instructor of health education.

A project of the Northeast Mississippi Healthy Start Program and co-sponsored by The W’s Department of Health & Kinesiology, the meetings will take place every Thursday from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Downtown YMCA Conference Room (602 Second Avenue North, Columbus, MS 39701).

These support sessions offer:

  • Peer support for pregnant and breastfeeding families
  • Guidance from certified lactation professionals
  • A welcoming space to share experiences, build friendships and engage in open discussions

The meetings will be facilitated by Jennifer Briggs, IBCLC.
