M.A., Sook Myung Women’s University, Seoul, Korea, 1995
Ph.D., University of Georgia, 2006

Youn Mi Lee earned her Ph.D. in Child and Family Development from the University of Georgia. Her specialization areas are intimate partner abuse, cultural diversity, divorce, women’s issues, and qualitative research. She is particularly interested in how issues of diversity and gender are reflected in personal stories. By applying a constructive paradigm, her research examines Korean immigrant women’s experience of marital abuse and post-divorce adjustment, interracial marriage and adjustment, and immigrant professional women’s work and family.

She continues to study aging-related issues, including attitudes toward elderly immigrants, cultural competency, aging & income inequality, and elder abuse. She also works with colleagues in research on helicopter parenting (U.S., China, and South Korea) and qualitative research on intergenerational alcoholism and Asian American elder abuse.
