Student Employment Opportunities

Campus Recreation employs a large number of students each year to manage their facilities and coordinate programming. The department makes every effort to provide student employees with opportunities for professional development, self-growth, and promotion within the department. Student employees average 15 work-hours per week and do not exceed 20 work-hours per week when class is in session.

Customer Service Representative

Manages the entry desk. Responsible for providing members and guests with information about our facility and programs, selling merchandise, checking out equipment, and cleaning the strength and conditioning room. Students will be responsible for daily cash flow and are expected to present friendly customer service.

Fitness Instructor

Plans and leads RecFitness classes in an enthusiastic and motivating way, while using safe activities geared towards each participant’s fitness level. Group fitness certification preferred (i.e. ACE, AFAA, etc.).

Intramural Official

Responsible for maintaining a safe and pleasant playing environment for all participants by enforcing the established rules and regulations for each particular sport.

Intramural Scorekeeper

Responsible for maintaining an accurate record of the game by checking participants into the game, working the scoreboard during the game, and recording information on team score sheets.

Intramural Supervisor

Responsible for managing all intramural sports by enforcing all intramural procedures and policies. Intramural Supervisors need to be effective communicators, maintain a positive attitude, and have knowledge of all intramural sports.

Lifeguard

Oversees the daily operations of the pool. Lifeguards must have a current lifeguard and CPR for the professional rescuer certification.

Office Staff

Provides excellent customer service to members and guests. Responsible for managing Campus Recreation office, which includes answering the phones, waiting on customers, administrative duties.  Students are responsible for all cash flow and making sure the front office is running smoothly.

Student Manager

Responsible for managing the daily operations of the Stark Recreation Center, including the opening and closing procedures. Oversees all student employees working in the facility. 

Weight Room Attendant

Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of Strength and Conditioning Room by systematically cleaning all equipment, racking weights and performing other tasks as required.  Monitors Strength and Conditioning Room, enforces policies, and assists members with the correct use of equipment to ensure the safety of participants.  

Water Safety Instructor

Plan and teach swimming skills to all ages in our Learn-to-Swim program. Water Safety Instructors must have a current WSI certification or equivalent experience.

Non-Student Employment Opportunities

Non-student employees average 10 work-hours or less per week and do not exceed 20 work-hours per week.

Personal Trainer

Provide clientele with a customized workout program and one-on-one assistance. Recognized national certification (i.e. ACE, AFAA, ACSM) or completion of MUW Campus Recreation certification required.
