Inaugural Recipients of Bob Fuller “W Difference” Award

COLUMBUS, Miss.— Mississippi University for Women proudly announces the first recipients of the Bob Fuller W Difference Award, a new annual honor created to recognize faculty and staff who go above and beyond in service to students.

Named in honor of Dr. Bob Fuller, department chair and beloved educational leader, the award reflects what he has long called The W Difference — the unique spirit of care, connection, and community that sets The W apart from big-box institutions. Dr. Fuller, who will retire at the end of this semester, is widely regarded as the embodiment of that difference.

“The W Difference is the time, dedication, and support we provide to our students,” said Dr. Bob Fuller. “These two faculty members are doers — they constantly go beyond what’s expected to ensure our graduates are among the best in the field. Our people are what make the difference. It’s an honor to have this award named after me, but I am most proud of our people. They make the W Difference happen every day.”

This year’s honorees, Dr. Alison Buehler and Mrs. Rose Goodin Ford, were selected after receiving an equal number of student nominations, each highlighting their passion, support, and impact.

Student praise for Dr. Buehler included:

“She truly listens, encourages us, and supports us — even with things that aren’t for her class.”
“I’d recommend the education department simply because of her.”
“She creates a welcoming classroom where every voice matters.”

Student praise for Mrs. Ford included:

“She’s passionate, encouraging, and brings out the best in her students — even when they don’t see it in themselves.”
“Her hands-on lessons helped me gain confidence in early literacy and how to teach it.”
“She pushed me to keep going when I was struggling — and I’m so grateful for that support.”

“Dr. Buehler and Mrs. Ford are outstanding in their craft and their profession,” said Dr. Marty Hatton, Dean of the School of Education. “They are true teachers — deeply committed to their students, passionate about their subject matter, and driven by the belief that great teaching transforms lives.”

The Bob Fuller W Difference Award will continue as an annual celebration of the people who make The W School of Education such a special place to learn, teach, and grow.
