The W to Host Education Interest Meetings for Aspiring and Current Educators

COLUMBUS, Miss.— Mississippi University for Women’s School of Education will host a series of Teacher Licensure and Graduate Program Interest Meetings to provide educators, school leaders, and aspiring teachers with the opportunity to explore academic programs designed to advance their careers in education.

The first in-person session is scheduled for March 25, 2025, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at The W’s EDHS Building. These sessions will offer insight into academic pathways for current educators looking to expand their credentials, as well as teacher assistants, transfer students, and career changers seeking initial licensure.

Kelly Ballard, associate professor of education, emphasized the importance of these meetings for individuals at different stages of their professional journey.

“Educators and aspiring teachers need accessible pathways to advance their careers, and The W is committed to providing programs that are flexible, affordable, and tailored to meet their needs,” said Ballard. “These sessions will provide essential information for those looking to earn their first teaching license, add an endorsement, or pursue graduate studies while balancing their current responsibilities.”

Attendees will learn about bachelor’s degree and licensure tracks in elementary education, early childhood education, and secondary education. The W also offers the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), a pathway for individuals who already hold a degree in another field and are seeking initial teacher licensure. Teachers interested in expanding their credentials can complete four courses leading to additional endorsements in special education and gifted education. In addition, The W offers master’s degrees in education with focuses on curriculum and instruction or multiple exceptionalities.

In addition to licensure and degree programs, The W offers CEUs, SEMIs, and OSLs for license renewal, along with online coursework and district support for professional development CEUs.

Each session will include a general session covering admissions, tuition, and scholarship information, followed by breakout discussions focused on specific licensure and graduate program pathways. The March 25 in-person session will take place at The W’s EDHS Building and will primarily serve educators from Columbus and Lowndes County school districts.

Attendees will receive a complimentary information package with program materials and resources.
