John T. Edge founded the Southern Foodways Symposium at the University of Mississippi, and is a past director of the Southern Foodways Alliance. He hosts the television show TrueSouth that airs on the SEC network and ESPN, and has previously published The Potlicker Papers: A Food History of the Modern South, as well as innumerable articles on Southern food and culture in Garden and Gun, Oxford American, and many other publications, including for many years a regular feature on NPR’s weekend All Things Considered. House of Smoke: A Southerner Goes Searching for Home is his first memoir.
