Mississippi University for Women Department of Music will present Songs of the Theatre, a concert of vocal solos and semi-staged ensembles from musical theatre and opera Friday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Poindexter Hall’s Kossen Auditorium.

The concert will be streamed live on this page. Admission to the in-person event is free, but reservations are required. Please RSVP before 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 by calling 662-241-6399. Masks are required.

Solo songs and duets will be performed by W voice majors under the direction of faculty member Dr. Susan Hurley, with additional selections sung by the W Chamber Singers as led by Dr. William Reber, director of choirs.

“We’re naturally drawn to story-telling. There’s drama inherent in the material chosen for the performance, so we have the theatricality of story-telling interwoven with great music that has been enduringly popular throughout the decades,” said Hurley.

She said the event will show showcase students’ voices as both ensemble and as soloists.

Hurley said, “We’re confident that audiences are going to have a great time.”

This concert includes music by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Schwartz, Richard Strauss and many more.
