Faculty Excellence in Teaching and Service Awards

Faculty Excellence in Teaching and Service Awards are intended as an opportunity for The W to recognize faculty and instructors for their . Research and Creative Activity Awards range from early career research and creative activity to sustained research and creative activity over the course of an academic career. Faculty Research and Creative Activity Awards are determined through a nomination process by The W Community and selected after review by the Faculty Research Committee (FRC). Awards will be distributed at the Faculty Research and Creative Activity Luncheon.

Eligibility requirements for the awards available are listed below.

New Faculty Teaching Award

The New Faculty Teaching Award recognizes new faculty who are committed to providing accommodating and engaging instruction for students in their courses, regardless of format. 

  • Letter of Nomination from Faculty Member or Department Chair/Dean (No more than 500 words) 
  • Faculty CV 
  • At least 1 year of employment at The W, but no more than 5 
  • Full-time 
  • Has not received the award previously 
  • Award Amount: $500

Faculty Service Award

The Faculty Service Award recognizes faculty who have contributed outstanding professional service to the University and/or community. Service is defined as the contribution of the faculty member’s expertise in his or her discipline to worthwhile efforts of the university, community, educational, environmental, business and economic life of the community.

  • >3 years employment at the W 
  • Full-time 
  • Has not received the award previously

Faculty Advising Award

The Faculty Advising Award recognizes faculty who have made a significant contribution to academic advising in their departments and are committed to engaging their advisees throughout their time being advised. 

  • Letter of Nomination from Faculty Member or Department Chair/Dean (No more than 500 words) 
  • Supporting letter from Advisee encouraged but not required 
  • Faculty CV 
  • >3 years employment at the W 
  • Full-time 
  • Has not received the award in the past 3 years

Excellence in Online Teaching Award

The Excellence in Online Teaching Award recognizes exceptional online teaching practices and significant contributions to the design, development, and delivery of student-centered online teaching and learning. Nominees demonstrate the impact of well-designed, high-quality digital course materials and show evidence of sustained excellence and innovation in online teaching practices that support student engagement, student learning gains, and student satisfaction.

Excellence in Traditional Teaching Award

The Excellence in Traditional Teaching Award recognizes faculty or instructors who have executed new teaching strategies, processes, or course designs that address new issues in higher education in a traditional, in person classroom environment.

Excellence in Teaching in Creative Spaces

The Innovation in Teaching Award recognizes faculty or instructors who have executed new teaching strategies, processes, or course designs that address new issues in higher education contexts involving theatrical performance, studio instruction, or other non-traditional formats.
