About Kathy Newman

Kathy Newman is an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Mississippi University for Women.   She received her MFA in theatre performance from the University of Southern Mississippi.  Kathy serves on the boards of both The Mississippi Theatre Association and Southeastern Theatre Conference as the State Representative for Mississippi. Prior to returning to graduate school she spent several decades working as an actor, primarily in New York City, Seattle and Atlanta working on stage as well as in film, television and commercials.   While in New York, Kathy was accepted as a working finalist to the prestigious; The Actors Studio.  While being back on the Southern side of the continent Kathy has been teaching in college and university programs, serving as an acting coach and director.  She has coached for The Georgia Theatre Conference(GTC), The Southeastern Theatre Conference(SETC) and The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival(KCACTF), where she also serves as a respondent.  Kathy has guided students to receive top honors at all three conferences.  Her students have found success on Broadway, in National Tours and in television and film.  Kathy is a recipient of the KCACTF Region IV Classical Acting award.  In addition to her university teaching she continues to privately train students via electronic resources from all over the country.   As a dedicated Meisner trained actor Kathy will obtain her teaching certification in this world re-known technique this summer in Brussels, Belgium.  She is also a proud member of SAG/AFTRA.
