Anika Mitchell Perkins
Executive Director of University Relations
Anika Mitchell Perkins is executive director of university relations at The W. She has served the university in public affairs for the past 19 years.
On campus, she chairs the Quality Enhancement Plan Marketing/Communications Subcommittee and was involved with the Commemoration of Desegregation Committee and the MUW 20/20: Envisioning our Future, Fulfilling our Promise Task Force. Perkins also is on-campus adviser for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the Coretta Social Club.
She is a past recipient of the Golden Triangle Public Relations Association of Mississippi’s Practitioner of the Year honor, as well as awards from the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM).
Her professional involvement includes CPRAM, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, Southern Public Relations Federation, the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning University Communicators Committee and the Public Relations Association of Mississippi-Golden Triangle.
Perkins earned her master of arts in journalism and mass communication with a concentration in public relations from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, in December 2017and earned her bachelor of arts degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations from The W in 1993.
In the community, she presently serves as a board member for the Boys & Girls Club of the Golden Triangle, the Town & Tower Club Steering Committee and has served on boards for Habitat for Humanity and the Columbus Arts Council.
Prior to joining The W, Perkins worked at The Commercial Dispatch, first as a reporter and then news editor, for five years.
