About Anika
A longtime communications professional, Anika Mitchell Perkins is the executive director of university relations at Mississippi University for Women. She has served in various communication roles at The W since 1999.
A 1993 journalism/public relations W graduate, Perkins has a deep knowledge of her alma mater and higher education. In 2017, she earned her master’s degree from Kent State University in mass communications and public relations.
Active in various professional organizations, Perkins is a two-time recipient of the Golden Triangle Public Relations Association of Mississippi’s Practitioner of the Year award and the recipient of multiple awards from the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM). In addition to being a member of CPRAM, she is a member of the American Marketing Association, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, the Southern Public Relations Federation and the Communicators Working Group of the state Institutions of Higher Learning.
An active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Perkins also serves as on-campus adviser for the undergraduate Chapter of Pi Zeta and has led quarterly meetings for the Town & Tower Club, whose mission is to foster and strengthen relationships between the university and the community.
In the community, Perkins is secretary/treasurer for the Columbus Main Street board and is involved with the Columbus-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce. She is a past board member for the Boys & Girls Club of the Golden Triangle, the Columbus Arts Council and Habitat for Humanity.

Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations from Mississippi University for Women
Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication with a concentration in Public Relations from Kent State University
