Support Mississippi Governor’s School

For almost 50 years, the Mississippi Governor’s School has helped develop the next generation of leaders, educators, healthcare professionals, engineers, entrepreneurs, artists, researchers, and public servants.

Sponsored by the State of Mississippi, MGS provides a tuition-free residential honors experience for gifted high school students from across the state. As MGS continues to grow, partnerships with businesses, industries, foundations, and community organizations help create unique learning opportunities that connect scholars with Mississippi’s workforce, communities, and future.

By supporting MGS, organizations invest directly in talented young people who will shape Mississippi’s future. Whether they become physicians, engineers, educators, entrepreneurs, artists, researchers, or elected leaders, today’s scholars are tomorrow’s problem-solvers.

There are countless ways to support MGS. Sponsor a Scholar. Build a Legacy.

Community foundations, civic organizations, businesses, and local leaders play an important role in helping identify and support the next generation of Mississippi leaders.

Many communities already know their top scholars. We encourage you to help us recruit talented students from underserved schools, rural communities, and first-generation college families who may not realize that opportunities like MGS exist or lack the support to apply.

Once a student is selected, a $500 local scholarship can help offset travel to campus, dorm supplies, MGS clothing, and other incidental expenses that may otherwise become barriers to participation. Communities can also make a lasting difference by mentoring applicants, reviewing resumes and essays, conducting mock interviews, and simply encouraging exceptional students to believe they belong at MGS.

Every community has talented students. Not every student has the same opportunity to pursue MGS. Local support can help open doors. We know the exceptional students are out there! Help us find them, Mississippi!

Sponsor a Course or Learning Experience

Many MGS courses align directly with Mississippi’s workforce and economic development priorities.

Examples include:

  • A regional hospital sponsoring a healthcare, nursing, or medical sciences course
  • A manufacturer supporting engineering, robotics, or design challenges
  • A technology company sponsoring computer science or cybersecurity experiences
  • An agricultural organization supporting environmental science or sustainability programming
  • A financial institution supporting leadership, entrepreneurship, or economic development discussions

Sponsorship may include financial support, guest speakers, mentorship, real-world case studies, industry expertise, equipment, or hands-on learning experiences.

Host a Facility Visit

One of the most memorable experiences for scholars is seeing innovation in action.

Businesses, industries, healthcare facilities, research centers, government agencies, and community organizations can partner with MGS by hosting educational visits, behind-the-scenes tours, demonstrations, job shadowing experiences, interactive workshops, networking opportunities, or conversations with professionals working in the field. These experiences allow scholars to explore career pathways while seeing innovation in action and learning more about the organizations shaping Mississippi’s future.

Sponsor a Meal or Special Event

Organizations may also choose to support the scholar experience through sponsorship of:

  • Scholar meals
  • Networking receptions
  • Buses or vans for travel
  • Leadership events
  • Service projects
  • Special speakers
  • Scholar recognition programs
  • Recreational and community-building activities

These shared experiences help build the friendships, leadership skills, and sense of community that make MGS unlike any other summer program.

Donate Through the MUW Foundation

State appropriations make the Mississippi Governor’s School possible, and the Mississippi University for Women proudly provides each scholar with a scholarship covering the three hours of honors college credit they earn during the program.

However, many of the experiences and traditions that make MGS unforgettable cannot be purchased through state appropriations and instead require private support. Gifts help provide scholar backpacks, medallions, special events, guest speakers, leadership activities, recognition programs, service projects, program enhancements, and other opportunities that enrich the MGS experience.

Every contribution strengthens programming, expands opportunities for scholars, preserves cherished traditions, and helps ensure that the Mississippi Governor’s School continues to inspire and develop Mississippi’s brightest young leaders for generations to come.
