Candace Spearman: Black White

This exhibition of black and white photographs by Memphis artist Candace Spearman documents her life over the past several decades. As a mixed-race child in the 1950s, Spearman navigated between two races—her father was Black, and her mother was white. Never being fully Black or fully white placed her in an outsider position, which made her an astute observer and a perceptive photographer.
