Getting Started

This section provides you with step-by-step instructions for completing the most common tasks needed before you can register for classes. If you have already completed these tasks during your admissions process, the next step is Orientation! Don't forget to register for the New Student Orientation session right for you, spaces fill up fast!

Complete Intent to Enroll Form

Once you have been admitted to The W, you will find a new form in you Application Portal. This quick online form lets us know you plan to attend The W so we can save you a seat.

Check your email or the Application Portal and complete the Intent to Enroll Form.

Submit Immunization Records

The W requires students to submit an immunization form showing proof of two doses of MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella). The first MMR should have been administered at 12 months of age (an MMR given prior to the first birthday is null and void per the Mississippi State Department of Health) and the second given prior to entry to kindergarten.

The Mississippi State Department of Health mandates that ALL state universities comply with this requirement. Failure to present proof of immunization can prevent you from being in good standing with The W and result in a hold being placed on your account that will prevent class registration.

You can submit your immunization records through the Application Portal.

Register for Orientation

Orientation is the first step in your time as a student on The W campus. During Orientation you’ll get a tour of campus, get to meet with an advisor, and learn more about what the university has to offer.

Register now for the one day event and select a date to attend during the summer.

If one of the dates listed doesn’t work, contact the Student Success Center (ssc@muw.edu) and we will help you!

Apply for Housing

Live close to everything!

Choose from six residence halls, offering a variety of amenities and housing options.

Applying for housing is easy and you can complete the process online. A $50 non-refundable deposit is required and will be applied to your student account.

Apply for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA)

Award offers from The W are contingent upon submission of the free application for federal student aid (FAFSA). You can submit FAFSA’s to The W’s Office of Financial Aid beginning in October. The FAFSA can be submitted online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Log into Banner & Set up your W Email

Banner is the system we use to keep track of all your information while you are a student at The W. When you log in for the first time, you’ll get your W Student ID number, your university email address, and a look at your account information.

Once you have spoken to an advisor, you’ll use Banner to register for you classes.

The Banner instructions tell you how to find out what your email address at The W is. Log into Banner to view this and check it often! Email is the official communication for The W and important notices will come through your W email account. Banner is also the place to view financial aid, register for classes when the time comes, and more!
