WELCOME! from the Interim Director, David A.
Smith
The Paralegal Studies program at the
Mississippi University for Women was instituted in 1979, and received its initial American Bar Association approval in February 1987.
The program has been re-approved by the ABA in 1992, 1997 and 2002.
Ours was the first ABA-approved program in the State of
Mississippi and continues to be the flagship program in the state. We offer
a four-year baccalaureate degree in Paralegal Studies, which will enhance
the student's job prospects and performance.
We believe that we have the best program in Mississippi, offering the student a solid legal education. Of course, we are also proud of the fact that the past President of the University, Lenore L. Prather, is the former Chief Justice of the Mississippi Supreme Court and a member of our Advisory Board. Our current President, Dr. Claudia Limbert, who took office July 1, 2002, has brought to the University a new sense of optimism and has an impressive resume of university leadership qualities.
Mississippi University for Women is not only a historic
institution, but also a campus of great beauty and wonderful academics.
Mississippi University for Women is affectionately known as the "W" and was
the first state supported public institution exclusively for females
established in the United States. The "W" now educates both men and women
and has been honored by U.S. News & World Report for several years as the best value in its class.
The Mississippi University for Women Paralegal Studies program offers small classes with the best of instruction and resources. The
program includes a full complement of legal courses designed to offer the student a well-rounded education and the utmost opportunity to succeed. The
program also sponsors Bench & Gavel, a club open to all paralegal students,
and Lambda Epsilon Chi, a national honorary fraternity for paralegals.
Come join us on our campus at any time. We would love to see you. You may contact us at the various telephone numbers and email addresses listed on this site to schedule your visit. And remember, at Mississippi University for Women, Paralegal is the law.
