Master of Public Health, MPH
The Master of Public Health (MPH) in Public Health is a fully online program that consists of forty-two credit-hours of coursework and three credit-hours of either an internship or research. The MPH core courses provide instruction and a basis of knowledge in coursework that is basic to public health, including biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health sciences, program administration, and social and behavioral sciences. The Public Health education-specific curriculum includes instruction in program planning, implementation, and evaluation. Students are introduced to graduate level research methods and may select from courses about injury prevention, nutrition, stress management, or other health-related behaviors.
Upon completion of the program, graduates are prepared to work in communities, schools, healthcare settings, and government agencies. Graduates are prepared to take the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam, which is the gold standard credential for health educators.
The purpose of the Master of Public Health is to provide high quality instruction and research at the graduate level. The degree seeks to provide graduate students with the skills and knowledge to become professionals in the field of Health Education. This purpose relates to the MUW mission by providing general and specialized education for a diverse population of students with an emphasis on women’s health issues. The program seeks to enhance the wellbeing of MUW students, faculty, and staff as well as the citizens of Columbus, Lowndes County, and the surrounding areas through cooperative efforts and partnerships.
