COLUMBUS, Miss. — Students in the low-residency master’s of fine arts in creative writing at Mississippi University for Women are on campus, May 25 – June 2 for their full residency period, consisting of workshops, seminars and public readings by students, faculty, and guest writers.
Featured are poet Jeannie Thompson, author of “The Myth of Water: poems from the life of Hellen Keller,” who will read Saturday, May 27, and novelist Diana Spechler, author of the novels “Who by Fire” and “Skinny,” who will read Thursday, June 1. Core MFA faculty will also read from recent work: Kendall Dunkelberg will read Friday, May 26; Mary Miller, whose short story collection “Always Happy Hour” was published in 2017, will read Sunday, May 28; and after a break for Memorial Day, Kris Lee will read Tuesday, May 30.
The MFA program’s first thesis candidates will be featured Wednesday, May 31. Tammie Rice will read from her memoir manuscript “These Stones I Carry,” and Beth Kander-Dauphin will read from her novel manuscript “Unshelved.”
The public is invited to attend any and all of these evening readings, which will be held in the Limbert Assembly Room of Cochran Hall on The W’s front campus, beginning at 7:30 p.m. May 26-28 and May 3 –June 1.
