The theatre program offers extensive coursework in theoretical and practical aspects in the are of making theatre. Theatre students acquire a broad understanding of theatre as a liberal art and a strong sense of self. Students develop the competitive skills with which to pursue professional or graduate work.
As a theatre major, you will take classes such as:
- Stage Lighting
- Directing
- Theatre Management
- Costume for the Stage
- Shakespeare
Theatre Education Concentration
For those who wish to teach theatre in a K-12 setting, The W is home to the state's first-ever bachelor's degree in theatre education. You will take teacher training courses in addition to coursework in theatre, acting, and stagecraft. Upon graduation, you will have earned a secondary education license in the State of Mississippi.
