The Women\u2019s College Certificate combines scholarship about women and gender from a variety of disciplines into a program of study. Courses are offered by faculty across disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, and health-related sciences and cover diverse research areas such as women’s health, women in politics, women’s history, and women and gender in art, film, and literature.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The certificate provides knowledge and competencies anyone might find interesting. They are also relevant for a range of careers such as health care, social work, counseling, management, media studies, public history, public policy, and teaching.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The certificate can also be ideal for any working professional interested in increasing their understanding of women\u2019s and gender issues, learning more about women’s leadership past and present, and further developing as a leader in their field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those pursuing the certificate will join 1884 Scholars and 1884 Fellows as part of the Women\u2019s College community and will be invited to participate in Women\u2019s College programming. <\/p>\n\n\n

Alumni who complete the certificate will be recognized during the following Homecoming celebration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Certificate Courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The curriculum is built on The W\u2019s strong foundation of courses across disciplines that focus on women\u2019s and gender issues<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students are encouraged to select courses that match their interests.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students may also be interested in taking WGS 200 Introduction to Women\u2019s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (fall semester), a foundational course that covers basic concepts and interdisciplinary perspectives in women\u2019s, gender, and sexuality studies scholarship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

WC 101 Women\u2019s College Colloquium (a one-hour course) is another option. Created specifically for Women\u2019s College students, this course explores women\u2019s diverse roles in society throughout history and around the world with guest lectures, workshops, and\/or service-learning, with accompanying short readings and individual reflection. Our Women\u2019s College Colloquium Speaker Series is offered in conjunction with this class. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking Courses as a Lifelong Learner<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Alumni with Lifelong Learning status can complete up to 21 hours of courses of specific interest to them without going through the regular university admissions process. This means you can complete the 1884 Scholar Certificate as a Lifelong Learner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
