SUMMARY:Shirley Chisholm Film Screening & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join I.D.E.A.L. Woman for a film screening and discussion of Shirley Chisholm\, the perfect introduction to the subject of this year’s Swain Speaker Series. In 1968\, Chisholm became the first African American woman to serve in the US Congress; in 1972\, she became both the first woman and the first African American to compete in one of the major parties’ presidential nomination contests. Her motto\, “Unbought and Unbossed\,” testified to her strength of character and conviction\, and she blazed a trail that opened the door to many women in politics and laid the foundations of Black feminist politics.
